STEPHEN L. SCHROEDER

First and foremost; I was born and raised in Washington, Indiana, with my Birth date being November 13, 1951. My Parents were Dr. Henry Roland Schroeder, M.D. and Helen Hyatt Schroeder. My interest in art and painting began at an early age of around twelve years. I have to thank my Grandmother (Schroeder) and my Fifth Grade Teacher, as well as my Parents, for encouraging me to pursuit my interest in painting and drawing. Actually my very first drawing was that of cartoon characters, which my Grandmother found to be exceptional in my ability to draw, from memory, these characters. When I attended grade school; I was encouraged to pursuit, with these type drawings, and later on to much more difficult subject matter like landscapes and animals. After grade school years ended; I was further encouraged to continue my art talent in high school. I have to thank several teachers for persuading me to continue on with painting of water color and oil. One of my teachers was so impressed with my abilities and work, that he made it possible for me to attend an art conference at Indiana University in the Summer of 1969. The Professors at I.U. were equally impressed with my paintings and drawings that they felt I hade great abilities and potentials in an art career, such as commercial art or painting landscapes. Over the past twenty or so years; I’ve used this talent as more or less of a hobby, but have painted several works for individuals, that expressed interest in my technique. Currently, I have improved, on my painting technique, by creating paintings from photo that other people have submit to me. This has become an on-going practice of mine, for the past ten years, to become more proficient in my oil paintings.
