The peaceful feeling of this snow covered winter morning is only enhanced as this "December Duet" arrives to brighten up the day. Although beautiful throughout the year, cardinals are most striking when their feathers are fluffed for the cold and their colors are contrasted against a fresh snow. |

Friendships can be one of the truest measures of ones wealth. For nearly thirty-five years Dea and Charlie have been friends with Fran and Jim. Although many miles now separate them, each is filled with memories of the best times spent together. Not long ago, they stopped by to visit a while and catch up on all the news. Charlie arrived with a story to tell, and Dea with a gift of flowers for their friends. |

Crisp cool mornings warm in the bright sunlight of late September. Leaves have begun to turn as nature changes into her fall colors and prepares for the coming season. This is the time that the mountains of East Tennessee beckon tall to come and behold the beautiful display. Soon enough, the first frost will arrive and later, the leaves will scatter on the wind; but for now, it is "Early Autumn" and life is good. |

In the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, you can find the good and the quiet side of life. Jim often paints on location, around small farms, back in the hills. Here we see an old gate, across a well used path from the house. Generations have used it and you can almost hear the squeak of the rusty hinges. A friendly Robin perched atop the gate, greets the morning. Before long he will be starting his journey farther south. |

One might fill a Britannica with only a partial list of phenomena that a working artist encounters. One such occurrence has to do with sunlight on the mountains. Let Jim describe Elusive Light in his own way, telling what he sees: Often times, when the sun is setting behind a high ridge or peak in the Smokies, there's a moment... a brief moment...when the light eats into the mountain edge and erodes its colors and shape. For an instant there's a corona effect. I've seen it dozens of times and tried to catch it on paper... I finally caught it. It's called Elusive Light. |

As the "End of the Day" approaches, children make the most of the fading light filtering across the snow covered landscape. The evening is getting colder and soon the warm glow from the windows will call them in. |

To walk the same cobblestone streets where history and art have been made for centuries, is a rare pleasure that Jim looks back on fondly. |
