This old
farm is
in Brown
County
Indiana,
just a
little
south of
my
studio.
Banded
Galloway
is the
official
name for
these
polled
beef
cattle,
but the
unique
marking
of the
broad
white
stripe
completely
around
their
middle
has
earned
this
black
bovine a
variety
of
nicknames.
In some
areas
they are
known as
Sweater-backs,
Dutch-belts,
Oreos,
and my
neck of
the
woods
are
called
Saddlebacks.
The
scene is
stark
cold,
yet warm
and
beaming
with
life.
From the
saddlebacks
to the
wild
turkey
in the
lane or
the
smell of
coffee a cookin
in the
kitchen this
is the
epitome
of rural
America.
